Pop-Up Biergarten Coming To North Andover In May

Notch Brewery will be taking its biergarten on the road in a partnership with with a conservation and preservation group.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA -- Notch brewery of Salem is planning a series of pop-up biergartens this summer in a partnership with The Trustees, a Massachusetts conservation group. The biergartens begin in May and will run Friday through Sunday on select weekends through October in the nonprofit’s outdoor parks, farms, and cultural sites in the Greater Boston area.

The first biergarten will open on May 17 at The Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover during The Trustees 5th Annual ‘Home Sweet Home’ Historic Open House Weekend. Other events are planned in conjunction with the Bird Park Dog Party, Powisset Farm Father’s Day BBQ, and Fruitlands Museum’s popular annual Craft Festival. Cultural sites such as Castle Hill on the Crane Estate in Ipswich and Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, as well as working farms including Powisset Farm in Dover and Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough are also slated to host the events.

"We’re very excited to partner with The Trustees to bring session beer culture to some of their most special places," Chris Lohring, Notch Brewing Founder, said in a news release. "This collaboration allows us to take the sociable aspects of session beer from our Biergarten on the South River of Salem to other attractive, natural spaces around Massachusetts. Our program offers the opportunity to create a communal feel and share more about what each organization offers while making the most of New England’s warm weather and late sunsets."

The biergartens will be located at scenic spots on each property and will offer a range of activities to highlight the site’s unique features including live music, lawn games, scavenger hunts, and Notch’s Meters for Liters fun runs. The biergartens themselves are free to attend, though some of the events they complement will have an entry fee and require pre-registration, including Oktoberfest themed events in September and October.

Founded in 2010 as the first US brewery to specifically focus on session beer, Notch Brewery produces a full range of traditional European and contemporary American beer styles, all 4.5% or lower. The brewery has a permanent, family-friendly tap room and biergarten in Salem.
