Public Health Officials Close College Cafeteria Over Cockroach Infestation
The main dining hall at Merrimack College, North Andover, Mass., was closed on Tuesday, and will remain closed until further notice.

The main dining hall at Merrimack College was closed on Tuesday by local public health officials because of a cockroach infestation.
A complaint prompted the North Andover Board of Health officials to investigate the main dining hall, also known as Sparky’s Place, according to health officials.

Susan Sawyer, health director, said the college has hired a professional pest control company to exterminate.
“We’re confident they have a good company,” Sawyer said. “The college is cooperating fully.”

The dining hall will remain closed until further notice. Public health officials will have to re-inspect the dining hall and greenlight their opening before food will be allowed to be served again.
“We’re availble anytime to help them get back online,” Sawyer said.
There are several other locations on campus that serve food.
