Respecting Those Who Serve on Memorial Day

The differences between how Rep. Diana DiZoglio and Oscar Camargo view a solemn holiday like Memorial Day are quite clear. Aren't they?

I was profoundly concerned by what I read on today's Sound Off about Rep. Diana DiZoglio on the Lawrence-Eagle Tribune:

"Campaigning — I know it is election season, but I was at North Andover’s parade and disgusted to see Rep. Diana DiZoglio keep zipping out of the Memorial Day parade and asking guests to vote for her. Memorial Day is a solemn day which should be filled with respect. Instead, DiZoglio was interrupting people as we were in mid-clap and reminding us that she was running for re-election. I found it distasteful."

This is why I support Oscar Camargo for State Representative. He demonstrates strong leadership, integrity and decency in everything he does. He clearly explained the true meaning of Memorial Day in his May 26th post on the North Andover Patch, Memorial Day: More than Just Remembering.

"...Memorial Day is a holiday of remembrance of those men and women who died while serving in the armed forces. However, this is a holiday whose true meaning is slowly receding from the minds of most Americans. ...On this Memorial Day, we're obliged to remember those who have died while serving our country. On this day, let's remember those who quietly endure in silence. On this day, let's do more than just remember."
