Route 114 Road Work To Disrupt Travel Through Andover, North Andover This Fall

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover and Andover drivers can expect more daytime construction on Route 114 this fall as MassDOT continues work on its corridor improvement project through November 2026.

According to MassDOT, work is scheduled on weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Demolition activities will continue at properties at the intersection of Route 114 and Hillside Road in North Andover. That work includes asbestos abatement, utility work, and demolition of structures at 582, 591, 599 and 607 Turnpike Street.

Elsewhere in the corridor, excavation and gravel placement are underway between the Andover Bypass and Willow Street for a future shared-use path.

MassDOT also reported that center median removal and temporary paving are underway throughout the corridor to help move traffic around active work zones.

Erosion control, sediment control and stormwater protection measures will be installed and maintained before and alongside upcoming work activities. Test pitting, soil sampling and utility investigation, will continue through September at various locations on Route 114.

Other work includes sawcutting roadway surfaces to support utility installation, utility pole relocation work at various points in the corridor and gas utility relocation activities through the fall construction season.

For travelers, the biggest impacts are expected to be changing traffic patterns and delays. According to MassDOT, lane shifts, traffic control devices and police details may be required on Route 114 within the project limits to support the work and protect both the public and workers.

Construction signage will remain in place and may be adjusted as work areas shift, according to the agency. MassDOT said access for pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.
