Shoplifting Arrest Leads to Seizure of 53 Grams of Heroin

The shoplifting arrest of a 25-year-old Saugus man after he came out of a restroom in a Kohl’s store led to the seizure of 53 grams of heroin and a large amount of cash, according to authorities.
Scott Small, 25, of Saugus, is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in Lawrence District Court for shoplifting and trafficking heroin, according to North Andover Police Lt. Eric Foulds.

Police were called to the Kohl’s on Winthrop Street in the North Andover mall shortly before 4 Thursday afternoon for reports of a shoplifter. Officers Jason Wedge and Brian Faye apprehended Small as he exited the restroom.
Small had concealed merchandise on him, according to Lt. Foulds, and was carrying the heroin in his hand.

Officer Wedge and Officer Faye detained the Saugus man after a minor struggle. He was held overnight at the North Andover Police Station.
Because of the amount of heroin, if convicted, would result in a minimum five-year sentence in a state prison for Small.
