State Agency Won't Pursue Disaster Declaration For North Andover

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has "decided not to pursue a federal disaster declaration" for Aug. 8 storms that caused extensive damage in North Andover.

The agency won't pursue the disaster declaration "due to reimbursable damage thresholds not being met statewide and because the storm did not exceed the capability of state and local government to respond," according to a statement from the Town of North Andover.

MEMA has told the town that working with the US Small Business Administration, it was determined that Essex County met the criteria for an Administrative Declaration. This will make Physical Damage Loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans available for households and businesses in the county.
