“The Boston Race for the Cure is our largest fundraising event and is what allows us to support breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in our local communities as well as research to find a cure,” said Lori van Dam, CEO of Susan G. Komen Southern New England. “Our April Race will give participants the opportunity to throw off their winter doldrums and get outdoors to raise money for a terrific cause. The Race will always be an uplifting celebration of survivors and a forum to honor those we’ve lost, and we are looking forward to seeing those beautiful views from Carson Beach.”
Race for the Cure includes the New Balance certified 5K run and a 5K walk—a 3.1 mile course—and participants can choose whether they would like to be timed. Youth under 16 may take part in the timed or untimed 5k or participate in the Kids Fun Run; registration for the Fun Run is not required. Survivors are encouraged to join Komen Southern New England at the Survivor Breakfast, which begins at 7:30 AM, followed by the survivor procession.

“Race for the Cure is a day for supporters of all ages,” continues van Dam. “We encourage area residents to grab their whole family, their friends and loved ones and create a team. We also want to remind participants that the funds raised support families right here in Massachusetts. At Komen, we know that together we can end breast cancer forever.”
Seventy-five percent of Komen Southern New England’s net proceeds support local breast cancer programs across Massachusetts and the remaining twenty-five percent is invested in research to find the causes and cures for the disease.
