Toy Car Bursts Into Flames In North Andover Backyard

The North Andover Fire Department has reported the incident to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA -- A $500, toy car that had been given to a North Andover child two weeks ago burst into flames Tuesday afternoon. The North Andover Fire Department responded to call from a mother who was able to free her children from the car after noticing that it had started to smoke.

"By the time our company got there, it was completely melted, completely unrecognizable," Fire Chief William McCarthy told the Eagle-Tribune, which first reported this story. McCarthy said the department notified the Consumer Product Safety Commission about the Sportrax Awesome XL and retails on Amazon for $499.99.
