Two Large Stores To Trade Spots At North Andover Plaza

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Kohl's and Market Basket are planning to change places at the North Andover Mall.

The plan for the 350 Winthrop Ave. plaza is from DSM Realty Inc. The Planning Board was scheduled to hear about the proposal at its Tuesday meeting.

"The redevelopment program consists of renovating the existing Kohl's tenant space to accommodate the relocation of Market Basket," according to the board's agenda. "The vacated Market Basket tenant space will be renovated to accommodate Kohl's and about 17,600 square feet of specialty retail shops."

Additional changes at the site include parking lot upgrades, improved traffic circulation, increased landscape area, upgrades to stormwater management, and site lighting improvements.

In a letter to the town, the advocacy group WalkBikeAndover weighed in on the project: "We understand that the lot may lose a number of parking spaces in the reconstruction," the group wrote. "If there are concerns about this, we would like to emphasize that enabling alternative modes of transportation via safe routes and secure parking will help alleviate the removal of these spaces."
