The latest snowstorm is expected to start with snow showers overnight before the snow intensifies during the Monday morning commute. The snow is expected to come down at a 1- to 2-inch per hour clip in the morning.
Snow will continue to fall for most of Eastern and Central Massachusetts during the day except for the South Shore and Cape Cod and the Islands, which will see the snow turn to a wintry mix before turning back to snow on Monday evening.
The snow is expected to dissipate Monday evening before ending on Monday night.
The latest NWS snowfall total shows that Central Massachusetts may get 12-15 inches. Eastern Massachusetts is expected to get 10-12 inches except for the South Shore and Cape Cod and the Islands, which will see lower amounts because of the changeover to sleet and freezing rain on Monday afternoon.
Once the storm leaves the area on Monday night, winds are expected to intensify. Wind chills are predicted to be below zero on Monday night, which will make for frigid snow removal.
The Monday storm will be the third snowstorm to hit the area in a week after nearly no snow so far this winter. The Blizzard of 2015 dumped as much as three feet on parts of Massachusetts on Monday and Tuesday last week. A minor snowstorm struck later in the week and dumped a few more inches on the region.
