What To Know About North Andover's New Plastic Bag Law
North Andover's new plastic bag law goes into effect with the start of the new year.
NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover's Plastic Bag Reduction Bylaw will go into effect Jan. 1.
The policy requires any food establishment over 3,000 square feet of finished floor area to eliminate the use of single-use, disposable plastic bags and provide a recyclable checkout bag to customers.
Bags allowed under the new bylaw must conform to specific requirements. The town's Health Department will be responsible for enforcing the law.

Residents are encouraged to bring reusable bags when they shop.
Citizens passed the Reduction of Single-Use Plastic Checkout Bags policy at an annual town meeting May 16.

The policy was submitted in a petition by North Andover Citizens for Sustainable Living. The petition passed by a majority vote.
