Wrestlers Ready For Semis After Mauling Masco

The girls ski team had an awesome day on the slopes; tonight the girls basketball team looks to continue an eight-game win streak.

The destroyed its rivals from Masconomet Regional High last night, taking the dual meet 55-10.

The meet was a tune-up for tomorrow's Division II State Semifinal right here in North Andover.

The Knights host Marshfield at 7 p.m. tomorrow in their quest to repeat as dual meet .

Last night's meet featured many of head coach David Castricone's top guns including and Frank McCarthy, a couple of co-captains on the squad.

Wrestlers to win by pin were Corey Chaff at 112 pounds, Nick Cincotta at 119, Zane Melillo at 130, Frank McCarthy at 145, Ryan Neals at 189, and John Pollard in the heavyweight class.

Danielle Coughlin, the team's first female varsity wrestler, picked up a win by decision along with her teammates Dan Lora, Dan Connelly, and Adam Bates.

The seemingly invincible Knights are ranked #2 in the state by MassWrestling.com.

The winner of tonight's semifinal at North Andover High will face the winner of tomorrow's Natick versus Milford meet for the D. II state trophy.

Girls skiing

North Andover dominated on the slopes yesterday afternoon. The girls ski team blew away Austin Prep by a score of 121-14.

The Lady Knights improved to a strong 6-2 overall record. A standout for North Andover was Alyssa Zahoruiko whose score of 23.17 was good for 15th place on the day's list of top performers.

Today

The takes the slopes at Bradford Ski Area for a meet beginning at 3 p.m. The Knights will take on Haverhill High School (0-6) and Masconomet Regional (3-3). North Andover comes into the meet with a 1-5 season record.

The are in action at the Cape Ann League Open.  The meet is at 5:30 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The is 11-3 after beating Georgetown and Ipswich over the weekend. They are on an eight game winning streak with six games left in the regular season. Tonight they take on Hamilton-Wenham in part of a special Faculty Appreciation Night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at North Andover High School.

O-Zone Lock of the Week

The O-Zone did it again. Last week, the O-Zone foresaw a win by the Lady Knights on Friday night at Georgetown High School.

The predicted outcome was 51-47, but the Knights did not let it get that close. Co-captain Erika Zahoruiko had a double double in the game, putting up 10 points and 10 rebounds in a strong all-around effort.

Morgan Lumb helped lead the attack with 10 points of her own to compliment her four steals. The Knights came away with a 48-32 road win. North Andover would then win their eighth consecutive  game on Sunday against Ipswich to improve their record to 11-3.

The O-Zone has a 2-0 career record predicting Scarlet Knights games.
