Have you ever taken a walk around your own neighborhood and saw that there were some people around you that had it worse than you did? And when you saw what you did with your eyes, was not your heart moved to want to help them?
Often times we think because we do not have money, that there is nothing we can do to help someone in need. Did you know that there was more to sharing than giving money?
There are so many other ways to show we care about others and the situations they are facing. Sharing our experiences, our skills sometimes go a lot farther in making a difference than what money would have done. Money is just a temporary fix but experiences and heartfelt action by others may be etched in stone and last a lot longer.
It has been a habit of mine to be observant as I took walks around my home or in the community. I looked for any opportunity to make a difference by offering a kind word or even a smile. I can still remember a few times when in doing acts of kindness I walked away feeling happier than I thought giving could make me feel.
What about you? How do you use your voice or skills to help others? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst
Poem: A Walk around the Neighborhood
Open your hearts and let the sunshine in…
Help someone in need a new way to begin.
Think of what life would be like if you were in their shoes,
And if you were, think about what you would want others to do for you.
So you don’t have money, this is a shame,
But there are more types of giving in the sharing game.
What is important is that you are moved to share,
And to others you help make life better, by showing you care!
