NORTHBOROUGH, MA — The Northborough Fire Department's new leader has officially taken the helm.
Keith Darling was sworn in as fire chief by Town Clerk Damian Bartek on Monday evening after beginning the role Saturday. The Northborough Select Board unanimously voted last month to appoint him.
Darling previously served as a battalion chief and paramedic with the Franklin Fire Department.
He succeeds former Chief David Parenti, who retired April 1 after 40 years in the fire service. Parenti had led the Northborough Fire Department since 2016.
Deputy Chief Neal Aspesi served as acting fire chief between Parenti's retirement and Darling's arrival. Aspesi joined the Northborough department in July 2023.
"Chief Darling's leadership and energy are already clear, and we're excited about what's ahead for the Northborough Fire Department and our community," fire officials wrote in a Tuesday announcement.
