Email scams - taking a few moments does make a difference

On Saturday morning I fire up the email and wouldn’t you know
I have an e-mail from the university of Pennsylvania
They want prices on toner and to fill out a credit application as well
Most would think about now “ why to go, good job and I hope you can land that contract”
 Sorry, I have all sorts of bells and alarms going off,
1st off the email isn’t directed to anyone
2nd when you hit reply it goes to hisname@upenns.org not hisname@upenn.edu
So, taking a look at a website that tells you who owns a domain name www.whois.com
Shows that this purchaser owns it , its 1 day old and the admin email address is universityofpennsylvania@yahoo.com

Ok so big deal, its just another spam right? Cant do anything about it , Just delete it Brian and move on…. Most would do that but not me.

My email is as follows
Today I received an email made to look like it was coming from UPenn.edu 
Enclosed is the email including headers, on closer inspection it is from a person that setup the domain upenns.org on June 20, 2013 http://www.whois.com/whois/upenns.org
And pretending to be the University of Pennsylvania and soliciting orders.
A domain whois shows the domain as newly created via wild west domains a reseller of godaddy products and services and that UPENN has nothing to do with said domain

Ok by now your thinking im nuts or just wasting my time, why go thru all this over spam.
1st, its not spam, its fraud and someone that’s targeting people . Reporting fraud like this to the proper government agencies helps shut them down fast and stop innocent people from getting ripped off.

Ok so I sent my email to the “reigtar that sold the domain name to the guy of upenns.org at about noon eastern time.

At 2:29PM eastern time the same day, I get a follow up email saying they shut the guy down!
