Community Remembers Joseph Prendergast

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday.

Joseph C. Prendergast, 85, a lifelong resident of Clinton, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at Clinton Hospital after a brief illness.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Kathleen (Boyce) Prendergast; and their children and spouses, Mary Ellen Kilcoyne and John of Sterling; Patrick J. Prendergast and Joanne of Norwood; James M. Prendergast and Karen of Northborough; Ann Marie Collins and Joseph of Norfolk. He leaves his sister, Alice Winkler of Altoona, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Meghan, Julie and Michael Kilcoyne of Sterling, Connor and Timothy Prendergast of Norwood, Sean and Sara Prendergast of Northborough, and Michael Collins of Norfolk; and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Joe was born in Clinton to the late Joseph and Mary (O’Malley) Prendergast. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the Clinton High School Class of 1945. He continued studies at Worcester Trade School, and began his lifelong career as a machinist.

Joe worked for the former Jamesbury Company in Worcester, Worcester Controls in West Boylston and later with Hypertronics in Hudson, from where he ultimately retired in 1997.

He was a life member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish in Clinton, adorer of Eucharistic adoration and former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devoted fan of all Boston sports teams, who in his spare time, enjoyed reading and walking throughout both St. John’s Cemetery and the Wachusett Reservoir. Joe most cherished time spent in the company of his loving family and will be dearly missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.

Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joseph C.
