Crews Knock Down Tractor Trailer Blaze on 290

The driver escaped injury after his tractor trailer burst into flames yesterday en route.

Shrewsbury fire and police got a call from Massachusetts State Police around 12:48 p.m. on Saturday for a fully involved tractor trailer fire on 290 West, just prior to exit 22, in Shrewsbury.

Crews responded to a 2010 international tractor that was ablaze, and the trailer had slight burn damage to the outside. The trailer damage was minor because the driver was able to detach it and drive the tractor about 30 feet away.

Fire crews put out the fire on the truck using foam concentrate.

There were no injuries to firefighters or occupants. The incident brought traffic travel down to one lane, causing a heavy traffic volume in the area. The tractor and trailer were registered to North American van lines a moving company. The contents inside the trailer were not damaged by fire.
