Did you know that approximately one in three homeless people in the United States is under the age of 18? One of the most requested items they request is a pair of jeans, because they can be worn multiple days without needing to be washed.

Troop 30155 Girls Scouts Maeve Grandpre and Anna Long are working towards earning their Girl Scout Silver Award by collecting new or gently used jeans for kids and teens. The jeans will be redistributed to children in need in the Worcester county area. The jeans can be in the form of pants, shorts or skirts. Collection bins are located at all the Northborough elementary schools, Robert E. Melican Middle School and the Northborough Free Library.

As part of the project, Grandpre and Long will meet with a small group of girls who will benefit from the effort and will work with them on embellishing the jeans and showing them how to mix and match tops to create multiple outfits. Their hope is to hold a fun fashion show at the end of the project.

Jeans will be collected through Friday, November 18, 2016.
