Thought and Poem – December 3, 2014
There are certain members of the family that feel they don’t have to follow the house rules. What you say to them goes in one ear and out the other. Screaming, threatening and giving them the silent treatment does no good. These are going to do what they want, when they want and it doesn’t matter what the “Mommy” or “Daddy” set down as rules for them to obey.
I am talking about cats and dogs. The ones we make almost “human” from the moment we bring them home from wherever we get them. We clothe them with “human” clothing, we feed them “human” foods, we give them “human” medicines when they get sick, and they may have their own room in a “human’s” home.

We hold them like babies, we talk to them in babyish gibberish and we have more “baby” photos of them than we do of our actual children. As they grow older, we may note that these furry extensions of our families might even get away with things that we never did when we were growing up.
They may look at us with those sad eyes when they want something we want them to wait for. They hang their heads when we disappoint them and they have days where their moods have the “human” families walking on egg shells. And there are times they even feel that they “own” us! Let’s face it…THEY DO!

Dogs
Dogs are great companions; I am sure you will agree,
They ask only that you feed them, love them and tend to any of their other “needs.”
Like humans they too appreciate a special treat now and then,
They bark mostly to be let outdoors and then again, to be let back in.
They are great listeners when we want to share our private thoughts,
When we are having a bad day; when things are rough,
Dogs seem to be able to sense when we are having difficult times,
And they are always eager to stay with us, and be by our side.
How soothing it is for us, when we pet their fur,
This simple motion has a way calming our nerves.
Dogs are known to be man’s best friend,
Dogs are loyal, and on them we can depend.
They stick by our side, and move only when we move,
They offer us the best of what only a dog can give and do.
They listen, but don’t talk back, they don’t judge if we are right or wrong,
Dogs were made for humans, and humans made for dog, together, always…to each other they belong.
