Have you ever woken up feeling like you are not going to have a good day? A cloud seems to be hanging over your head and you are feeling weighed down? We all have had these kinds of day, some more than others. Sometimes you just don't know why you wake up feeling this way, it just happens. When I am having one of these not-so-good days, I find that reaching out to help someone else has proven for the most part to aid in lifting my spirits.
Focusing on what we can do, or how we can cheer up another person usually gives us the added boost we need to keep going forward with our day. When we see the joy that another person receives from knowing someone else cares about them, how can this not make you feel better? Many times when I leave the person, I am apt to have forgotten that I was feeling yucky when I started the day because now I am in a better and more positive mood.

Poem: In a Rut?
Sometimes we find ourselves in a rut and we roll in the mud it creates,
We tend to settle in the grooves and lose sight of a way to escape.
I am not going to sugar coat this, but life can get tough,
For those who deny this, they best beware, when reality hits them…well facing life can be rough.
It doesn’t make a difference who you are, or what kind of life you have lived,
When you find yourself void of joy, it helps to reach out to others and give.
No matter how small or how large a role you play today,
It is the positive steps you take to help yourself, that will lift you out of the muddy waters and rinse the “dirty” blues away.
This is how I am feeling today,
I just happened to wake up this way,
Didn’t do anything yet, so I can’t blame the mood on something I have done,
But this is not a good way to begin the new day that has just begun.
So I take out the water hose and turn the refreshing waters on,
And I am going to rinse away the “muddy mood” I don’t need, and it shouldn’t take long.
Then I am going to take a look around me to see what I can do
That will help change the mood of the day for me and for someone else who is feeling blue.
I find that when I am feeling low,
And I just don’t have the gas to go,
I need to fill-er-up with something that will lift my spirits
And I find helping others puts me closer to a better day than if I had not tried it.
