Thought: “Just had that Feeling”
Have you ever done something and walked away feeling that something is not right? Whether it was a noise that made you stop to think, or just a gut feeling? I have many times in my life. I am also happy that I listened to my “inner” voice telling me to retrace my steps and go back to see if I had done something wrong that I needed to correct.
As we age, hopefully we learn from mistakes that may have turned out badly for all involved and that we don’t do many more of these kinds of episodes in our future. Do you understand what I am talking about?

Okay….example….you are moving. While packing you decide to have a nice cup of hot tea. After pouring the hot water into your cup, you set the still hot tea pot on the back burner so that no one will accidently rub against it when working around the stove in the kitchen…..good move? Wrong!
Of course, I had turned off the electricity to the burner…a good move? Yes….what was wrong about this situation was the fact that my lovely daughter decided to put a large stack of newspapers on top of the stove and right on top of the burner I had just shut off after pouring the water for my tea. As I was heading into the other room to get something, I thought, umm, I wonder if that burner was “cool” before she set the papers on top of it. Good thing I decided to take a look, because as I took the papers off the burner, the bottom papers were already smoldering. Was there a heart attack in the making? YES! So, I for one was happy that I just had that “gut” feeling and decided to check to see if something had gone wrong.

I have had many other experiences like this in my life, but what about you? Have you had times when you had to retrace your steps to assure that everything you had done was done properly? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst
Poem: “Just had that Feeling”
Have you ever experienced a moment,
When something you have done left you confused?
You knew something felt out of place,
It made you stop and to think; your heart would begin to race?
I have had a couple of episodes like these in my life,
And if you can imagine, I would not want to do any of these twice.
These kinds of experiences can give one a heart attack;
We are wise if we decide to retrace our tracks.
Once, my mother asked me to put the wet clothes in the dryer,
A small load only, so I set the timer for twenty minutes or perhaps a tad bit higher.
I closed the door and then pushed "start,"
But as I walked away I stopped in my tracks...glad for once I had been smart.
Something did not seem right, as the as the dryer was making a lot of noise.
It was just a small load of clothes, not sneakers or toys?
I went back to see what the thump, thump, thumping was all about,
And when I opened the dryer door, to my scared-half-to-death eyes, I saw our pet cat jump out!
He was wet from being buried under the wet clothes,
Perhaps a little frightened too I suppose.
I had to chase after him to make sure he was okay,
And to give him extra love for the fright I caused him today.
I for one am happy that I knew to turn back when I did,
The noise was not normal, so I am glad I did this.
Thankful that only a few seconds had lapsed from my hearing the noise after closing the dryer door,
No more will I dry clothes in the dryer, without peeking in before shutting the door! Yes?
