Learning

Thought – July 14, 2014

We’ve all heard the saying, “Give a man a fish, you’ll feed him for a day, but teach him how to fish and he will eat every day.”  There are many blessings that can come from helping someone learn to help themselves.  With that being said, when I was in ninth grade, a math teach was telling the class, “If you save such and such amount of money, every day for the next twenty five years, you will have enough to live on for the rest of your life.”  Oh dear, I wished I had “listened” to him.  Why didn’t I?  The only thing I know I will live on for the rest of my live will be Social Security!  And, even this might be a “maybe?”  Sigh.

In either situations quoted above, the general idea is to take what you learn and allow it to guide you to success.  Whether it is being a stay-at-home mom or dad, an author, a president, or any other profession that is out there, we can and do learn from one another.  The gift about this is that after we learn something, we can teach it to others.  Be it that we learn from mistakes we or others have made, from something we read, or from something we created and mastered over time, learning is part of getting to where we are today.  And, what we learn, we pass on to the future generations to come.  Our history books are full of mistakes made and efforts made to avoid doing them again.  If only we would listen to each other and learn from each other.  We would lead healthier and happier lives.

Poem - Learning

We started learning right from the time we were born, in fact,

We have learned so many things in our lifetime it is hard to keep track,

Of all the wonderful things we have learned to do,

Including learning what we could, to manage all the hurdles we had to face and get through.

A learning experience is never wasted, as there is always something we can glean,

From the things we did, or said and from all the things we have seen.

The joy we derive from these all depends on any efforts that we make,

To share what we have learned with others, so that they can learn not to make our mistakes.

What a wonderful world it would be,

If you had something you learned you could share so the pain of others could be relieved.

Or if we worked together and practiced the good things we have learned through the years,

Instead of a world void of joy, there could be more happiness as we might avoid many tears and fears.
