Start your summer with a movie night for a great cause. Bring two school supply items as your ticket to see Finding Dory at the Northborough Library on Wed., June 14 at 5 pm – 7 pm.

The movie night event is sponsored by the Interact Club of Northborough-Southborough, a fairly new youth group licensed by Rotary International. The school supply donations will benefit the Northborough Helping Hands Association Inc.’s (NHHA) annual backpack drive.

Items needed are notebooks, packages of pens and pencils, binders and highlighters. Admission is free with a donation of two types of school supplies per person. Pizza and snacks will be served as well.

The Interact Club is comprised of students ages 12-18, whose aim is to put service above self. They focus on a broad range of issues from community needs to international needs.

Club President Sruthi Tanikella lived in India for three years and witnessed poverty. Her experience motivated her to start Interact Club upon her return to the United States.

A YouTube video about the history of the club notes that the mission of the group is to get youth involved in service because as the next generation, youth have a lot of responsibility.

“If we start now, we will be closer to defeating the problems that attack our world. It’s never too early to get a head start,” the video stated.

Interact clubs around the world strive to show that the youth can make a difference as well as be great leaders for years to come. The Northborough-Southborough chapter hopes to provide relief first on a community level and then on an international level.

Additional information on NHHA can be found on their website.

Finding Dory is rated PG and recommended for ages 6 and up. Commonsense Media review can be found at here.
