Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For 25 years, more than four million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.

The theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster Contest is "Our World, Our Future." Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on Nov. 15, were eligible to participate. For the past 15 years, the Northboro Lions have partnered with eighth graders at the Melican Middle School to create artwork for submission to the international art contest.

The artwork is displayed in an art show on Thursday, March 7, through Wednesday, March 13, at the Central One Federal Credit Union, 148 Main St.

A special reception is held on March 7 from 4-6 p.m. All are invited to attend. Anyone unable to attend the reception is invited to view the artwork during Central One’s normal business hours. You do not need to be a member of the credit union to attend the art show.

In 2012, the Northboro Lions donated over $14,000 to local and national charities and organizations, including the Northborough Food Pantry, Algonquin Girls Gymnastics, Mass Eye Research, and Project Linus. In conjunction with the Northborough Public Schools, it arranges for eye exams and glasses for children in town whose families could not otherwise afford eye glasses. All of these efforts are made possible through fundraising efforts conducted throughout the year.
