NORTHBOROUGH, MA—It's easy to find a charity. Throw a dart and you'll hit some group, somewhere, raising money for some cause. But perhaps you want to keep it truly local, and help the neighbors around you or the organizations that operate right in your community.
The season of giving is just around the corner. As our jack o'lanterns start to rot on the front steps, thoughts of Thanksgiving, winter, helping, kicks in to our thoughts.
Here is a list of five nonprofit organizations operating or helping in Northborough. Learn more about them.

- Pet Chance: On Thursday July 12, 2012, Peter Alberti, founder of PetChance.org, was listening to a Boston-area radio talk show. The guest was a veterinarian who answers callers' questions about their pets. The prevailing theme from many of the callers was: "My vet told me my pet needs a treatment I can't afford. What cheaper alternatives do I have?" In far too many cases, pet owners are forced to sacrifice quality of life for their pets due to financial constraints. In the worst cases, people must choose to euthanize a pet when reasonable medical care might have been an option.
- Northborough Lions Club: The Northboro Lions is a group of individuals who live, work and have a vested interest in the town of Northborough and are committed to serving the community.
- Northborough Food Pantry:The Northborough Food Pantry is a source for supplemental food to those who are on a limited income or have an acute need. Residents of Northborough or persons with active membership in a church located in Northborough may shop at the pantry one time each week.
- Northborough Helping Hands Association: The mission of Northborough Helping Hands Association (NHHA) is to coordinate programs to assist those in need in the form of Thanksgiving food baskets, Christmas gifts, clothing, medical equipment, and emergency aid for special services.
- Northborough Education Foundation: The mission of the Northborough Education Foundation is to provide the Public Schools and the community with resources necessary to improve curriculum, programs and services above and beyond the level supported by the annual school budgets.
