"The Ice Cream Cone"

Thought: 

There are certain things we like to do, at certain times of the year.  I know I do and I am sure you do too.  With summer just around the corner, I think back on all the delicious ice cream cones I have eaten in my lifetime.  Truly there are too many to count, but it is almost like I can still remember every flavor I have ever tasted.  Can you?

I think it is absolutely amazing the different flavors they have come up with today.  Back 50 or 60 years ago, you pretty much had the same 3 flavors; vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. On occasion, there might be some coffee, maple walnut, butter rum or even some blueberry.  But today, those who make up the flavors have worked hard to surpass even the best of these flavors of days gone by. 

Today, we have the world of ice cream at our finger tips and we can add even more flavors to this list; cherry, Oreo cookie, peach, pumpkin, cheesecake, heath bar, peanut butter cup, celebration, black raspberry, pineapple, jelly bean, are just a few I can think of that we have in our area.

When you are done choosing the flavor of ice cream you want, the next question you will hear is, “Did you want “sprinkles” on it?  This questions is followed by, “rainbow sprinkles, or chocolate sprinkles,” that is if you answer yes!  Then they have these hot dips you can dip your ice cream cone in and make a hard coating over the ice cream. You might also have to choose between a sugar cone, wafer cone, a waffle cone or your ice cream in a cup? And then the toughest question of all still yet to come would be if you wanted a single scoop, double scoop, or a triple scoop.  And just when you thought you were done answering all the possible questions you still might be asked if you would like yogurt, soft-serve or hard…and if you wanted to add to this nuts!  The lists can go on and on and on.

Poem:  “The Ice Cream Cone”

Who doesn't like having an ice cream cone on a hot summer day,
Like the one I am having today.
I heard the music from the Ice Cream Truck playing down the end of our street,
And have my money ready so I can buy an ice cream treat.

“What will it be the,” gentleman said,
“A popsicle, an ice cream bar or an ice cream cone instead?”
I stood silently for a few seconds while I was making up my mind,
Then I replied, "an ice cream cone," which then he further asked, "what kind?"

Then he read off the flavors from the list which I could choose from,
And I teased my taste buds imagining what each flavor would taste like on my tongue.
Decisions, decisions which will it be?
And I tried to think which flavor would be the right one for me.

"I'll have a triple scoop of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough please,"
And I stood watching as he scooped each scoop of this delicious ice cream.
Waiting in anticipation of taking that first lick with my tongue,
And all the more licks it will take for me to eat it all up and be done.

There is nothing like eating a refreshing ice cream cone on a hot summer day,
Like the hot one I am having today.
So have your money ready when you see the Ice Cream truck coming down your street,
And embellish your soul by enjoying a sweet tasting cold and delicious ice cream treat.
