Write a Poem

Thought - July 7, 2014

Many times when we are in bad situations, we often don’t realize that there are tools we can use, or people we can turn to that will guide us when we need to make good decisions. Still, there will be times that there is no one around that we trust or feel we can open up and talk to. With this being said, let us introduce a skill that has been around for years and has been a true source of relief for those who chose to use it. WRITING…simply put! Writing has found a purpose in many lives and our libraries around the world are full of books where people wrote down how they were feeling.

All that is necessary to put this tool to work is a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. Then, with a little quiet time, and an open mind to creativity, a person can, if they really want to, and try, well, they can write about how they are feeling at the moment.

People, whether young or old, are amazed at how taking a time out to meditate on their current situation, can help them to find healthy ways to let go of bad feelings… putting our words on paper, instead of expressing our words out loud. Using this skill allows freedom from the consequences that they would reap by making a bad choice or taking a bad course of action.

I have been using this skill for years, and believe me when I tell you it works! What about you? Why not give this a try yourself and then…share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst

Poem:  Write a Poem

I guess today is as good as a day as any to have a major meltdown,
My nerves are jumping through my skin and my thinking abilities have packed their bags and left town!
I am so worked up from all the stresses I face,
There can be no doubt about it; I belong to the HUMAN RACE!

Still though, I need to find a safe way to let my feelings out,
Because, I know that anger does no one any good, and no one will listen if I shout.
So I have to come up with a way,
To help me deal with the anxieties I am having today.

I’d go for a walk, but it is cold and rainy outside,
I’d read a book, but tears are filling my eyes,
So maybe I will take out a piece of paper and a pen,
And write down the words, I wanted to say, if I had spoken.

I will pour out my anger in the poem I will write,
I do not have to share it with anyone, and it won’t be graded as wrong or right,
But I am going to let my heart move me to know what I will say,
And when I am done, I review my work and then put it away.

The next time I am feeling as I am today,
I will retrieve the poem I have tucked away,
And read it to remind myself what I know I should do,
Then I will take out a piece of paper and grab a pen and start by writing down a word or two.

When I am done I know that I will feel no shame,
Because I held back my anger, I did not draw attention to myself or soil my good name,
And I feel a lot better now that my words have been expressed,
And I can face forward knowing I have tools to get through the moment, and I am going to keep trying my best.
