30th Annual Horseshoe Grille Jimmy Fund Golf on August 3

Tournament will be held at Hill View Country Club

In the 1950s, the Lee family of North Reading opened their restaurant – then the Horseshoe Lounge – to the public. The Lees wanted to tie their restaurant to a cause. A big baseball fan, Pat Lee, Sr. followed the lead of the Boston Braves and began fundraising for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

Over the course of 60 years, the Lees have supported the Jimmy Fund through softball tournaments and road races and other fundraisers at the now Horseshoe Grille. In the 1980s, golf tournaments became the thing to do to raise money, and the Lees jumped on board. In 1985, they held the first Horseshoe Grille Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament.

“Unlike other golf tournaments that started because of a family tragedy, ours was just because it was the right thing to do,” says Pat Lee, Jr., who now runs the family business.
