A Whirlwind of Activity and Success at NRHS
A great year at North Reading High School.
As we head for graduation on June 7, things are definitely not slowing down at NRHS. The activity and success meter has been off the charts during the past few weeks, from variety shows to awards night to state tournament games, the campus has been abuzz with activities. The accomplishments of NRHS students this year is beyond impressive.
Let's start with the NRHS documentary that debuted this past week in the high school auditorium. One student came up with an idea a couple of months ago, and before you knew it, a complete documentary featuring students, teachers, administrators and residents was on the big screen. The film touched on everything you always wanted to know about the current high school building, but were afraid to ask, and was received warmly by the good-sized crowd. Watch for the documentary to show up on NORCAM in the near future, and the students hope to sell DVDs.
Also in the past few weeks, dozens of NRHS students received academic awards at the annual Spring awards event. Teachers from all subjects spoke highly of students who have reached the highest levels of performance at the school. It was great to see a packed auditorium to salute the students and thank them for all of their hard work.

On the entertainment front, the Masquers recently staged its annual variety show. To say that the talent was outstanding would be a huge understatement. A packed auditorium was treated to some of the best song and dance this side of Broadway. Every year I attend the masquers musical, play and variety show, and every year I walk away from each amazed at the performers this school has grown and turned out. These shows are a great bargain and a great night out.
On the athletic front, the spring season has culminated what has to be one of the best years in the history of the school. Five of six teams -- softball, baseball, boys lacrosse, girls tennis and boys tennis -- qualified for their respective state tournaments, and all will be playing in the next few days. The boys track team won the Cape Ann League, while the softball and baseball teams won their Cape Ann League divisions. This past Sunday, North Reading hosted the division 4 state track meet and saw the girls finish second in the state and the boys finish fourth. North Reading's 8 spring teams combined for a winning percentage of nearly .700.
