“Cyber Safety Savvy: Summer and Beyond”

On Thursday, June 6, 2013, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the North Reading High School Auditorium, North Reading’s Community Impact Team will welcome nationally known cyber safety expert Shawn Edgington to present “Cyber Safety Savvy: Summer and Beyond.”  Shawn will speak about the rapidly changing world of social media, and how to work with children to use social media positively and actions to take when difficulties, such as cyber bullying, arise.   

This free program is not just for parents of teens, but geared to all adults (no children or teens please) responsible for children and teens. Students as young as elementary age need to know how to use social media safely, as technology like iTouches and other small devices mean students have more access to the internet than ever before. This session will also be helpful to caregivers, such as grandparents, babysitters, and anyone responsible for children who have access to smart phones, computers, and tablets.

Babysitting will be offered free for up to 50 children.   Refreshments will be served.  Space is limited.

The North Reading Community Impact Team (CIT) is a partnership between the North Reading Police Department, North ReadingYouth Services, North Reading School Department, North Reading Parks &Recreation, North Reading Fire Department, and the North Reading Board of Selectmen. The Team emphasizes the use of innovative, non - traditional methods of impacting crime and the fear of crime and strives toward cooperative interactionbetween the community, law enforcement and town departments. The CIT works to identify factors that have a negative impact on the quality of life for the citizens of North Reading and to implement solutions that solve the underlying problems.
