Success in Securing Passage of Terrorist Benefit Recovery Amendment to Senate’s FY’14 State Budget Proposal
An amendment filed by Senator Tarr that passed during today's Senate FY'14 budget debate would allow the AG to recoup public assistance benefits from those who commit terrorist acts.

With a number of key amendments debated during today’s FY’14 Senate budget debate, Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) and the Senate Republican Caucus succeeded in securing the passage of an amendment that would allow the Commonwealth’s Attorney General to attempt to recover money from anyone who had received public subsidies and welfare benefits, and who had been convicted of using a weapon of mass destruction.
Welfare benefits should be for people who need a hand to support themselves and their families when they are in need, not violent predators who commit acts of terrorism and unthinkable violence against innocent people.
The amendment, now part of the Senate’s version of the FY’14 state budget proposal, would create an account where any and all public assistances funds would be provided to the victims who may have suffered at the hands of a terrorist act.
