Special Town Meeting and Elections should contain amounts to be bonded.

A letter to the Transcipt by Geraldine Hamm in this week's paper was followed by an editor's note, saying in part that State law prohibits dollar amounts from being printed on ballots for 2 1/2 overrides. That is incorrect. Newton recently coducted an override election containing three separate questions for consideration. Each ballot question included specific amounts for each question.

Votes at Town Meeting and on ballots should contain specific dollar amounts, just as is required to fund budget items that are within the 2 1/2 allotments.

At issue is that the Board of Selectman schedules these Special Meetings & Elections prior to determining specific dollar amounts. Thus the Town Meeting warrent and the Special Election ballot ,being premature, has not included the amounts to be borrowed and bonded.
