Cheer On Former Hornet At Gillette Sunday
North Reading grad Nick Ponte and Merrimack playing for national lacrosse title.

If you need one more reason to head to Foxboro for the NCAA lacrosse championships, how about supporting a former Hornet great.
Nick Ponte, a sophomore goalie on the Merrimack Warriors lacrosse team, will take the field at Gillette Stadium Sunday hoping for a national title. Merrimack (17-1) will face St. Leo's (16-2) at 4 p.m. for the NCAA Division 2 national lacrosse title. In the early game, Salisbury (Md) plays Wesleyan (Conn.) for the Division 3 title at 1 p.m.
A criminology major, Ponte is the Warriors back-up goalie and a 2016 graduate of NRHS. He was a four-year letter winner for the Hornets and a two-time Cape Ann League All-Star. His freshman year he started one game and beat Assumption. This spring he played against AIC in a 17-4 Warriors' win.
