CIT Hosts Presentation on Brain Development

Learn more about the developing teen/tween brain.

The Community Impact Team’s K-12 Action Team and Reading Cooperative Bank are hosting its second free presentation this year focused on learning about the teen and tween developing brain. This free presentation will be held on Thursday, May 18th at the North Reading High School’s Performing Arts Center at 6:30pm. Free parking is available at the school and resources will be available for attendees.

Dr. Potee is a nationally renowned expert in adolescent brain development and its impact on tween-teen risk taking, including alcohol and substance abuse blends scientific research with an understanding of the challenges of raising healthy teens. Dr. Potee is a family medicine doctor in Greenfield, Massachusetts and is affiliated with multiple hospitals including Boston Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and has over twenty years of experience.

About the North Reading Community Impact Team
The North Reading Community Impact Team (CIT) is a partnership between the North Reading
Police Department, North Reading Youth Services, North Reading School Department, North Reading Parks & Recreation, North Reading Fire Department, North Reading Elder Services, Health Department, and the North Reading Board of Selectmen. The team was developed to better coordinate the services provided to the community. The CIT’s mission is to work together to better the quality of life for all citizens. The Team emphasizes the use of innovative, non-traditional methods of impacting crime and the fear of crime and strives toward cooperative interaction between the community, law enforcement and town departments. The CIT works to identify factors that have a negative impact on the quality of life for the citizens of North Reading and to implement solutions that solve the underlying problems. The group is organized into Action Teams including: K-12, Youth Substance Use Prevention Coalition, Communications, Public Safety, Social Services, and Business Coalition.
