Community Impact Team Acknowledges Volunteers

Volunteer breakfast hosted at O'Leary Senior Center

The North Reading Community Impact Team recently held a breakfast to thank its dedicated volunteers. Hosted at the O’Leary Senior Center, guests were treated to homemade breakfast and updates related to subcommittee action items. Greetings on behalf of the Board of Selectmen were given by Chair Bob Mauceri. He noted, “The board wishes to thank not just the Community Impact Team’s volunteers, but all those that serve the town.” Selectmen Yull, Selectmen O’Leary and Town Administrator Michael Gilleberto were also in attendance to echo Mauceri’s well wishes.

Among the presentations was a recap from the K12 Action Team led by Superintendent Jon Bernard. He noted almost a dozen projects completed or in the works this year. Social Services Action Team Co-Chair Rich Wallner noted the focus on intergenerational programming as important to his committee. Youth Substance Use Prevention Coalition Chair Amy Luckiewicz spoke about the upcoming National Night Out (NNO) and the year’s successful In Plain Sight event which will be replicated at NNO on August 2nd. The team also thanked volunteers Rita Mullin and Pat Fillmore for their work with preparing the acknowledgement breakfast.

The North Reading Community Impact Team (CIT) is a partnership between the North Reading Police Department, North Reading Youth Services, North Reading School Department, North Reading Parks & Recreation, North Reading Fire Department, North Reading Elder Services, Public Health, and the North Reading Board of Selectmen. The team was developed to better coordinate the services provided to the community. The CIT’s mission is to work together to better the quality of life for all citizens. The Team emphasizes the use of innovative, non-traditional methods of impacting crime and the fear of crime and strives toward cooperative interaction between the community, law enforcement and town departments. The CIT works to identify factors that have a negative impact on the quality of life for the citizens of North Reading and to implement solutions that solve the underlying problems. The group is organized into Action Teams including: PR/Communications, Public Safety, Social Services, K-12, and Business Coalition.
