District Attorney Marian Ryan to Speak to Seniors

The District Attorney will be speaking about the relevance of opiate addiction and seniors.

The Community Impact Team’s Youth Substance Use Prevention Coalition and Elder Services will be welcoming Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan on Thursday, May 25th at 12:00pm at the O’Leary Senior Center. District Attorney Ryan will speak to seniors about opioid safety and how to respond to any concerns about addiction. She will also speak on the far-reaching effects of opioids, ways to safeguard medication from theft, tips on how to manage prescription medication using a File of Life, and how to properly dispose of unused or expired medication. Youth Services Director Amy Luckiewicz noted, “Many people may not think that there is any opioid problem with seniors. However, they are certainly a population at risk, especially when receiving orthopedic surgeries and prescriptions.” Luckiewicz continued, “Also, we are learning that many opiate abusers get their pills from the medicine cabinets at home. We need to raise awareness of how to best secure those medications.” Lunch and File of Life refrigerator magnets will be provided to all who attend. This event is open to the public, but RSVPs are requested by contacting Amy Luckiewicz or Mary Prenney at (978)357-528, email northreadingcit@gmail.com, or visit www.northreadingma.gov/communi... and click on “events”.
