Harvard Crimson Recognizes Jimmy Vesey's Standout Season

The North Reading resident was named the runner-up for the Harvard University newspaper's Rookie of the Year award.

Jimmy Vesey has had a pretty good year, to say the least. And his classmates are well aware of it.

The North Reading resident and Harvard University men's hockey player was a U-20 World Championship as a member of Team USA and snagged the Ivy League Rookie of the Year during his first season, and was recently named runner-up for the Harvard Crimson's Rookie of the Year award in the newspaper's end of year issue.

“Jimmy was great,” senior forward Alex Fallstrom said in the article published by The Crimson. “He was really one of the players that stepped up for us during the year. I think he’s got a great career ahead of him, not only at Harvard but beyond that, too.”

Vesey's future may very well include time in the National Hockey League. In 2012, the North Reading hockey standout was drafted by the Nashville Predators.

The local, who is the son of former Boston Bruin Jim Vesey and brother of Austin Prep standout Nolan Vesey, will have the chance to play at the college level before fulfilling his draft rights with the Predators.

“Jimmy’s got some great offensive gifts, and he’s a natural goal scorer,” Harvard head coach Ted Donato told the Harvard Crimson. “I think that’s something we hoped and expected, and he’s only going to get better now that he’s had some experience at this level.”
