Have an Opinion on a Medical Marijuana Dispensary in town?

Then come be heard Monday when Selectmen will hold public hearing on proposed Registered Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Should the town welcome a medical marijuana dispensary? Now's the time to express your opinion.

The North Reading Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing Monday at 8:15 in Room 14 of Town Hall to hear comments from the public regarding a proposed Registered Medical Marijuana Dispensary at 79 Concord Street.

According to a posting on the town's website, "the Board has been asked to provide a letter of non-opposition to CAS [Foundation] to complete CAS' application for a state Department of Public Health license to operate a Registered Medical Marijuana Dispensary. Once a license is issued by the state, CAS would then be required to apply for a Special Permit from the Board of Selectmen to operate a dispensary within the Town's zoned area."

We are excited by the prospect of working with a community that recognizes the benefits of what the passing of “The Humanitarian Medical Use of Marijuana Act” means for its residents and neighbors who will benefit by it," said Jayne Vining, CAS founder in a letter to selectman in December. "It is our impression that the representatives of North Reading have the foresight to recognize being a part of the process, rather than creating obstructions to it, is the best way to ensure North Reading complies with its citizens will, yet in a responsible and beneficial way. CAS couldn’t agree more."
