It’s Elementary! Bringing music back into schools with a picture book
Gia Volterra de Saulnier
North Reading, MA: With the main goal of helping to bring music back into classrooms in Massachusetts and across the United States, author, musician and entrepreneur Gia Volterra de Saulnier created the picture book, “Journey to Jazzland.” In the book, readers join Windy Flute, Spitz Trumpet and their friends as they travel to a legendary place where music is joyous, creative and free.
Ms. Volterra de Saulnier was born and raised in Fairhaven, Massachusetts and attended University of Lowell (now University of Massachusetts, Lowell). It was there that she learned to love jazz. She has been performing jazz and other kinds of music for over 20 years, throughout the New England area.
Journey to Jazzland came to life in 1999 at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, MA with the idea of writing and drawing a picture book for children as a final project for “Children’s Literature 102.” It was not until 2012 that Gia connected via Facebook with Flying Turtle Publishing, a small publisher based in Indiana. (http://www.flyingturtlepublishing.com).
“Journey to Jazzland” has already received several 5-star reviews and is being sold in two stores (New England Peddler, Southwick, MA – http://www.newenglandpeddler.com and The Book Monger, Waterville Valley, NH - http://www.bookmongernh.com/THE_BOOKMONGER/Welcome.html) .
“Journey to Jazzland” is also available on Amazon in hard cover or soft cover versions and is soon to be released for Kindle. http://www.amazon.com/Journey-Jazzland-Gia-Volterra-Saulnier/dp/0985149280/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1376861932&sr=1-1
