Cowabunga’s will soon open the largest indoor inflatable playground in Massachusetts in North Reading.
The company with a location in Hooksett, NH, plans to open in the former Sears Hardware at 265 Main St., at the end of January.

The facility will be 20,000 square feet, which is 30% larger than its Hooksett location.
Matthew Pearson, who co-owns Cowabunga’s with his wife Kelly, said the company, which was founded in 2011, will provide community rooms to use during the week, special Friday Fun Night activities with popular characters and military discounts. Adults are also welcome on the equipment and can play alongside their children. There will also be ladies’ nights and work functions at the inflatable playground.

“We’re thrilled to bring the model we created in Hooksett to an all new community,” said Kelly Pearson. “Family fun, active play on inflatable equipment has been well received in Hooksett; we look forward to sharing it with a community far enough away where it will be a new experience for so many families.”
Matthew Pearson said finding a new location was “a long road,” but the North Reading spot was what they wanted.
“The space had everything we needed from the get-go. We knew we could transform the space with ease, a hurdle that limited us with so many other locations. Plus, we have a landlord that understands the family market were keys to finalizing plans,” he said of Federal Realty Investment Trust, which also owns the location of the new 44,000 square-foot LEGO Land Discovery Center in Somerville.
Matthew Pearson said Cowabunga’s has given more than $15,000 back to the Hooksett community this year and plans to give back to North Reading too.
Cowabunga’s hopes to continue to expand beyond the two locations.
Construction of the North Reading playground will begin this month with an open date set for the end of January.
