On behalf of the board members of the North Reading Historical Commission and North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society, I would like to thank the more than 100 visitors who stopped by the Putnam House and Damon Tavern on Memorial Day.
We appreciated hearing from visitors about how much they enjoyed seeing the homes, especially the inn rooms and Rufus Porter murals in the Damon Tavern.
It was great to hear from so many people who made a special visit to the tavern on Memorial Day to view the historic ballroom murals that have been behind locked doors for a generation. We hope to one day permanently open the ballroom so North Reading residents can once again enjoy the murals.

We also re-opened three inn rooms at the Damon Tavern after decades of being closed to the public. We decorated the rooms with 1800s furniture thanks to the generous donations of North Reading residents.
We are proud to showcase the historic buildings and the restoration work being done by volunteers. We also enjoy highlighting donations made to our collections that provide a window to North Reading’s past.
