LNR Wrestlers Finish 3rd at Div III Dual Meet Tournament - Dual Meet Winning Streak Ends at 54

The LNR Wrestling team competed at the MWCA Division 3 Dual Meet State Championship in Wakefield on Feb 8.  Sixteen of the top  teams in Massachusetts Division III competed in the tournament.  LNR defeated Sandwich in the first round by a score of 42-19.  In the second round the Pioneer-Hornets faced the Cohasset Skippers who they defeated easily 58-12.  In the third round LNR faced Wayland in a battle of two unbeaten teams.  The score went back and forth in a very even and intense match.  Dramatic wins by Max Whyman (138 lbs) and Joey Wise (152 lbs) both defeating their opponents in triple and single overtime respectively.  However in the end Wayland edged LNR by a score of 30-28 giving Lynnfield-North Reading the third place trophy.

The LNR dual meet winning streak started in 2012 and continued through the 2012-2013 season (25-0).  The team continued to be unbeaten through the first 24 meets in the 2013-2014 season and ended with a remarkable 54 consecutive dual meet wins.

This week the team travels to Josiah Quincy Upper School in the final dual meet  on Tuesday Feb. 11.  On Saturday the team competes in the MIAA Division III North Individual Sectional Tournament in Danvers.
