New North Reading Museum Moves Closer to Completion

The North Reading Minitmen are looking for help to have the Farm Museum ready for the Apple Festival this month.

The North Reading Minitmen’s dream of the Farm Museum is close to coming true, but the group needs help to make it a reality.

Built on the Rev. Daniel Putnam House property, the farm museum will tell the tale of North Reading’s agricultural past. There will be farm equipment used about 75 to 100 years ago when North Reading’s primary industry was agriculture.

The North Reading Minitmen have been raising money and planning the museum with help from the North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society.

The Minitmen completed the construction of the post and beam structure in August. There is still work to be done to have the museum completed by the Apple Festival on Sept. 20.

The Minitmen are looking for skilled, semi-skilled and other volunteers to help install the roofing and siding on three sides and provide help with other tasks. Workdays are planned on Sept. 6 an 13.

After the Apple Festival, the group will need help with installing overhead doors and paint trims.

The Minitmen are also looking for new members.

The Minitmen and North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society are inviting people interested in joining to stop by the school house, which is behind the Putnam House, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3. If you are interested but can’t attend, you can call 978-664-6202 for more information.
