North Reading Community EarlyAct Brings Flowers to Peabody Court
Kids bring cheer to seniors.
The North Reading Community EarlyAct Club recently completed its final project of the year with a visit to seniors at Peabody Court. Youth Services Director Amy Luckiewicz noted, “This year, more than ever, the kids seemed really concerned about the quality of life for seniors. We’ve did this project last year, but they quickly voted to continue this year again.” After a planning session, the children began planning their service project in partnership with Maureen Hickey from the Housing Authority. Forty flower pots were hand-painted by the students and brought over to the senior housing. With the help from graduating NRHS senior volunteer Annie Nitzche, the children carefully planted the flowers and hand-delivered them to every resident of Peabody Court.
About the North Reading Community EarlyAct Club
The club is designed for students grades 3-5, representing all schools in North Reading. Based on a Rotary International model, the projects and meetings focus on the values of gratitude, community, leadership, commitment, and inclusion. The club meets twice per month to plan and implement a local or international humanitarian project. Initiated just this past March, the group was formed by 4 parent volunteers: Sandy Garniss, Samantha Miller, Karen Buscemi, and Leslie Schultz in partnership with North Reading Rotary Club’s Peter Majane and Director of Youth Services Amy Luckiewicz.
