North Reading Moms & Tots

Aug 2013 marks the one year anniversary of when my family started calling North Reading, MA our home. Moving from west coast to east was a big transition for all of us. Although we were ready to embrace the changes life was bringing to us, we were missing our near and dear ones. It takes a long time to get to know local families, make friends and feel really at home in a new place. The previous owner of our home mentioned a really small but close-knit community on Meetup.com and insisted I should give it a try. Being new to this whole idea of meeting strangers online, I was little hesitant at first but decided to give it try. Today I feel blessed to say that August 2013 marks one year to the day we started our journey towards creating lasting friendships within our community for me and hubby as well as for our now 3 year old.

We are a part of the North Reading Moms and Tots Group on Meet-Up. The group is a friendly, diverse and very active group of 69 families (and growing) in North Reading, MA and we have just crossed our 1000th meet-up mark since the start of group in March 2011. The group mainly involves activities geared towards moms and kids; we are working towards adding more meet-ups where dads can socialize too. We recently ended our summer session with an ice cream social for whole family. It was one the biggest events we hosted in 2013 in the beautiful backyard of one of our group organizers. The kids enjoyed a perfect summer afternoon playing on a swing set, slides, doing water play and exploring outdoor fun. Time flied very quickly while parents were catching up with other parents. Everyone enjoyed snacks, drinks and Ice- Cream.

If you are new to the area like we were, a new mom, or just looking to meet more local families please have a look at our page on Meet-up. Our group consists of both working and stay-at home moms, so our event calendar contains weekday, weekend, and evening activities. There are moms only events, play dates for the kids, and family events where everyone gets together to socialize. Earlier this year we partnered with Flint Memorial Library and co-hosted several events with them, including a Valentine’s Day Party and a Woodland Fairy Tea. We look forward to co-sponsoring more events with the library in the future. We’re also trying to develop a partnership with the NRPD and the North Reading CIT this fall, leading to workshops that will help keep our families informed and safe.
