Enforcing the laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to underage individuals can help prevent alcohol-related traffic crashes, which needlessly claim the lives of young adults every year across the U.S. In addition, nuisance calls like fights, vandalism and noise complaints often involve young people who were drinking alcohol.

"No single approach will entirely solve underage alcohol consumption," Chief Murphy said. "However, we think this proactive step, along with other wisely implemented approaches and strategies, can significantly reduce the scope of the problem and help make our youth and our community healthier and safer."
