North Reading Police Cruiser Involved in Crash
The officer was ruled at fault in the Route 28 crash and he will be cited by his own department.

NORTH READING, MA — A North Reading officer driving in his cruiser was at fault in a crash that injured a Tewksbury woman Thursday, police said. The officer, who was not identified, was uninjured, but he'll be cited by the North Reading Police Department, Chief Michael Murphy said. The Tewksbury woman went to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The officer was driving north on Main Street in North Reading when he stopped and signaled a left turn into the National Tile parking lot. A driver in the southbound lane waved the driver on, police said, but a PT Cruiser driving in the right lane of the four-lane roadway (Rte. 28) struck the cruiser.
Police said the officer should have checked both lanes of oncoming traffic before taking the turn.
