North Reading Youth Services Offers Programming for Grades 3-12

Three separate programs will be offered with opportunities for high school students to participate as volunteers.

North Reading Youth Services is pleased to announce autumn programming for grades 3-12. Three separate programs will be offered with opportunities for high school students to volunteer.

Middle School Youth Group will return starting Monday, October 17th. Each Monday, the group will meet in Middle School Room 107 from 3:15pm-4:45pm. Coordinator Amy Luckiewicz explained, “Middle School Youth Group is a great example of purposeful programming. Each week the students will have time to work on homework, and then together, we’ll participate in a guided activity.” Luckiewicz explained that the programming will be diverse, focus on the students’ interests, build self-esteem and skill-build. “Students can expect to have fun. We will work on art projects, play themed trivia, complete team challenges and keep it all very interactive.” She added, “Right now we have activities planned including shark Jeopardy, guided meditation, and some guest speakers.”

In addition, Youth Services will be offering Elementary School and Middle School Mentoring. These programs will meet weekly beginning October 19th. Students in grades three to eight will be paired with high school volunteer mentors to complete some homework, then participate in a guided activity. The sessions will be run separately at the Middle/High School Library. The Middle School Mentor Program will run Wednesdays from 3:15pm-4:00pm and the Elementary Program (for grades 3-5) will run each Wednesday from 4:00pm-5:00pm.

Luckiewicz commented, “This program counts on high school mentor volunteers being reliable and committed to their mentee. I’ve seen some amazing mentorships grow from this program that continue on past the program.” Volunteer opportunities are also available working with the Middle School Youth Group on Mondays. High School volunteers are required to participate in an orientation on Wednesday, October 13th at 3:15pm at the MS/HS High School.

Middle School Youth Group and both mentoring programs are free. Programs will not be held on holidays nor snow days.
