Obituary: Arthur F. McGonagle, Jr., 85, of North Reading

He was a resident of North Reading for 52 years and was a member of St. Theresa's Church.

Arthur F. McGonagle, Jr., 85, of North Reading, formerly of Malden, died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Wilmington Health Care Center.

Born in Medford, MA on April 18,1929, he was the son of the late Arthur F.,Sr. and Catherine G. (Lorden) McGonagle. Arthur was raised and attended school in Malden. He was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1946 and a graduate of Boston College, Class of 1952.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Arthur served as a clerk in the 62nd Signal Battalion. He attended Keio University in Tokyo and at Sendai and Koriyama in Northern Japan.

Arthur worked for many years as a pharmaceutical salesman at Wyeth. He was a resident of North Reading for 52 years and was a member of St. Theresa’s Church.

He always had a great sense of humor, he was very caring and loved his family. He liked to sing and dance, watch football, loved animals and would take in stray and homeless animals. He was proud of being a Boston College graduate, being Irish and always was a good conversationalist.

Family members include his beloved wife of 58 years, Ann M. (Rinciari) McGonagle; daughters, Lisa Boisvert of Tewksbury, Lori Madden and her husband Tommy of Andover and Linda Parr of Wakefield; grandchildren, Ashley and Rosalie Parr, Marie Boisvert, Tealia and Lacey Madden; he was the brother of the late Donald McGonagle.

His Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St. (Rt. 62), North Reading. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to: Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Arrangements are by the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading, MA 01864.
