Obituary: Richard Alan "Dick" Atwell, Retired DPW Employee

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the North Reading Public Works Department for many years.

Richard Alan “Dick” Atwell, 84, of North Reading and Wakefield, died at his home on Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

Born in Melrose, MA on April 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Richard Atwell and Eunice (Coburn) Atwell Hopkins. He was raised and attended school in Wakefield.

Dick worked as a heavy equipment operator for the North Reading Public Works Department for many years. He has been retired for more than 25 years.

Dick was very dedicated to his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him, filling his life with laughter and joy. His humble and caring way is what his family and friends admired most about him. Although he was a man of fewwords. He always left a lasting impression.

Family members include his beloved wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Campbell) Atwell; loving daughters, Linda Goodwin and her husband Bruce, Susan Colburne and her husband Ronnie, Jr., all of North Reading and Judy Slosser of Sigel, PA; cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Matthew Goodwin, Lukas Slosser, Courtney and Ross Colburne and a great grandson, TylerLebaron.

Funeral services will be private and are under the direction of the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading.
